Where: PD
Summary: Practical jokes are Iruka's way of showing affection
Rating: VERY PG ^.^
Warnings: Nothing

Iruka came to work deliberately during the dead space where the night shift was half asleep because their shift was nearly over and their paperwork was done. He snuck into Kakashi and Asuma's office first. Replaced the books Kakashi had tucked away in his desk with books that he'd bought then carefully ripped the pages out of. He'd been in once the night before to make sure he bought the right ones to use. He stuck Kakashi's books in his book bag so they wouldn't get lost. Then he lowered Kakashi's chair and oiled the so when he went to raise it up he'd get a nice fist full of grease. It took a lot more effort to find and remove every pen and pencil from their office and left one a pen rigged to zap him when he clicked it in the drawer and a glued second to his desk. He added a whoopie cushion for distraction. If he got him with that, he'd be entertained but it was there just because it was a classic and the "aw you thought you'd get me, how cute" effect. A bucket of water was a little difficult to manage and not make a huge mess so he opted for a plastic cup of water instead.

After that he replaced all the coffee with decaf and hid the real stuff and set out the birthday cake and card with a very carefully photo-shopped picture of Kakashi without his mask and carefully added acne and a hairlip. It wasn't actually a picture of Kakashi without his mask but only he and Kakashi would be able to tell.

None of was very serious and it wasn't meant to be just his way of saying he hadn't forgotten the stupid cake. The last one, he admitted, might have been a little mean... coffee was vital to Police life after all.

Iruka smiled and shook his head. "I know my perception of pranks is different than yours but it wasn't bad, it was clever. I like clever, it's memorable." As long as it wasn't hurtful or if it was not undeserved then he couldn't help but admire the thought behind a prank. "That kind of embarrassment isn't bad. It's only embarrassing because you're the center of attention and you look a little silly. I don't mind that, I respect it. Plus it's fun."

"On the other hand, glitter is mean. I had one student when I taught at the dojo bring glitter, and I didn't even touch the stuff and it ended up in some places I'd rather not mention." And Kakashi hadn't been the only one confused, that was for sure.

Iruka laughed at the possibilities. "True and there are definitely certain downsides to covering you in glitter... like the fact that it would probably end up on me."

"Then what would everyone at the office say?" He couldn't help but snicker slightly.

"I don't know..." Iruka smirked. "Probably something about how we must do more than spar at the dojo."

"Nonsense." If it was possible, Kakashi seemed to relax even more in his seat than before. "We've never done anything but spar at the dojo. They must be thinking somewhere else..."

"Like--" Iruka thought about it for a minute then snickered. "--The closet." It sounded more like something Iwashi would say but he couldn't help it, it just popped in his head."

Kakashi quirked his brow. "More like your place or mine. And more like on a bed or couch than a closet. Not that I'm opposed to trying..."

"Ah but if I showed up to work and didn't have glitter on me and then you showed up and we both ended up with glitter on us..." Iruka smirked. "They wouldn't assume we went home. So it's the closet or the office. Of course we could get some and test the theory."

"Hmm, well any day Asuma isn't working you're welcome to try that out." It was mostly teasing, but if Iruka wanted to take him up on it there was no way he'd say no. His office did have a lock on it. Up until now the lock was usually used for napping or reading... with few other exceptions, though none as promising as Iruka's suggestion.

"Is he working today?" It was Kakashi's birthday and well if Kakashi got upset with him for the rest of the pranks he'd at least be able to make it up to him.

"Truthfully I didn't look at the schedule. Maybe I should?" Kakashi rarely looked at the schedule unless he absolutely needed to know when someone was working. This time seemed to be one of those.

"If he is working there is always the closet idea." There were a few supply closets he knew of that had locks.

Of course, Kakashi wasn't about to put that one out. "If you can keep it quiet." He teased, pulling his feet back and moving up to go and search to see if Asuma's desk had a copy of his schedule tucked away on it.

"Well I think that's your fault if I'm not," Iruka remarked pointedly.

"I think either its a self control problem or nothing a little duct tape couldn't fix." Kakashi teased, smiling beneath the mask though Iruka couldn't see it.

Iruka stuck his tongue out then smiled. "I had self control before I met you so it's still your fault. You stole it." From the start Kakashi'd had a way of completely unraveling him.

"Such accusations are hardly fair." He pouted this time, knowing that one person was not capable of stealing something like someone's self control completely. "You were loud before me, I can probably find proof."

"I might have been but you'll never get the proof." Iruka stood up and slid his arms around Kakashi's waist. "It's a lot of work and you should just take the credit, it's easier."

"I wouldn't be a good cop if I just took the easy way out." Kakashi knew for a fact he could get proof and everything else, it didn't mean he would. Even Iruka saying that much was all he needed to say he was right.

"A good cop knows when to trust his sources."Iruka smiled. "So fiiine... I confess I never had perfect self control but it was better. Still say it's your fault since I'd gotten pretty good at the denial game until you."

"Denial. That explains a lot." Now that he thought about it, the entire idea that Iruka had trouble not jumping in bed with the past couple guys he dated spoke to self control, too. "Though I think you actually have more self control with me than in the past, which speaks against your claim."

"You're never going to let me win this are you?" Iruka chuckled and shook his head. "So is he working?"

"Don't think so. Doubt he'd give up the chance to torment me today, since it was apparently obvious." Kakashi shrugged.

"What was obvious? When your birthday was?" Iruka smirked. "Or do you just mean that I've made it obvious?"

"I meant you." Kakashi shook a finger. "No one even asked before this time."

"I'm a terrible boyfriend. I didn't think to ask until my birthday and then I well went and pulled strings in personnel to get the information from your file." He'd have felt bad if he'd found out Kakashi had already had his and he'd missed it.

"Well if you'd asked I never even would have fallen for the bladder on the chair." Kakashi pointed out. He wasn't mad that Iruka had gone around his back to get the information. He was more just teasing than anything else.

Iruka snickered and loosed his hold on Kakashi. "Well then it's a good thing I didn't because that was funny." He released Kakashi the rest of the way and leaned back against one of the desk. "Although that chair could be put to better uses than pranks," he purred, winking.

"True and it's your birthday so anything you want." Iruka walked over and locked the door. "Any specific birthday request?"

(ooc: we should move this to a log probably...)
